  ECGI 2012 Annual Lecture
ECGI Fellow, Marco Pagano, Professor of Economics, Facoltà di Economia at the Università di Napoli Federico II, gave the Annual Lecture on the theme of Market Transparency and Company Disclosure. Jens Henriksson, President, NASDAQ OMX Stockholm gave the response.  The session was moderated by ECGI Board Member and Fellow, Professor Erik Berglof, Chief Economist and Special Adviser to the President, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

  Three new ECGI Board Members
Following the departure of four Board Members, Jordi Canals, Daniel Lebègue André Prüm and Jaap Winter, three new Board members were elected at the 2012 ECGI General Assembly in Stockholm on 27 April 2012. The new Board members are: Jordi Gual, Chief Economist and Head of Research at la Caixa, Professor Gerard Hertig, Professor of Law at ETH Zurich and ECGI Fellow, and Jörgen Holmquist, former Director General for the Single Market and Financial Markets in the European Commission.   Five new Fellows appointed
On 27 April at its 2012 General Assembly held in Stockholm, the ECGI announced the appointment of five new Fellows of the Institute drawn from academia in Europe and North America. They augment the Fellowship of the ECGI which now numbers 46 distinguished academics. See:

  2012 Working Paper prizes awarded at General Assembly
The winners of the 2012 Standard Life Investments Finance Working Paper prize and the 2012 Allen & Overy Law Working Paper prize were announced at the ECGI's General Assembly held in Stockholm on 27 April 2012. See:

  ECGI's 2012 Dinner, General Assembly and Annual Lecture
These took place in Stockholm on 26-27 April. On Friday 27 April, the General Assembly and Annual Lecture was held at the Royal Coin Cabinet, Stockholm. Marco Pagano, gave the Annual Lecture (which was open to the public - see link to video recordings above). The dinner for ECGI members and invited guests took place the night before. During the dinner, the winners of the 2012 Working Paper prizes were announced.

  Shareholder Engagement: What is 'Appropriate'?

The eighth conference in the Transatlantic Corporate Governance Dialogue (TCGD) series took place in Washington at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington D.C. on Thursday, 15th December 2011.  The theme this year was Shareholder Engagement: What is 'Appropriate'?. Keynote speakers were Mary L. Schapiro, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Nadia Calvino, Deputy Director General, DG Internal Market and Services at the European Commission.   EU Green Paper and the ECGI Research Agenda
Following the publication by the European Commission of two Green Paper on Corporate Governance of Financial Institutions and on Corporate Governance of all European corporations, the ECGI organised an academic conference in order to to identify the corporate governance research agenda of relevance to issues raised in these Green Papers. In addition to ECGI Research and Board members, the conference was attended by representative of DG Internal Market and Services and other invited academics and researchers. See:

  Corporate Governance After the Crisis
Columbia Law School, the European Corporate Governance Institute and the Said Business School, University of Oxford hosted an academic conference in Oxford on 13-14 January 2012 on the theme of Corporate Governance After the Crisis. Attendance was by invitation only.  See:

  13 new Research Associates nominated
The ECGI Board has approved the recommendation of the Research Associates Committee, chaired by Professor Erik Berglof, to appoint 13 new ECGI Research Associates. This brings the number of ECGI Research Associates to 110 and the number of Research Members (including ECGI Fellows) to 151.

  11th European Corporate Governance Conference in Warsaw
The ECGI is organising a session "Corporate governance rules as policy instruments for change" at the 11th European Corporate Governance Conference. Organised by the Warsaw Stock Exchange in co-operation with the European Commission, this conference will be held on 15th November 2011 in the Sheraton Hotel, Warsaw. The project is under the official patronage of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. See:

  Final Report of the Independent Commission on Banking (The Vickers Report)
The Independent Commission on Banking under the chairmanship of Sir John Vickers, published its Final Report on 12 September 2011. In June 2010, the Commission was asked to consider structural and related non-structural reforms to the UK banking sector to promote financial stability and competition, and to make recommendations to the Government by September 2011. The Final Report sets out the Commission’s final analysis and recommendations.  See:

  ECGI Annual Lecture
ECGI Fellow, Colin Mayer, Peter Moores Dean and Professor of Management Studies at the Said Business School, University of Oxford, gave the Annual Lecture at the Duisenberg School of Finance on Friday 8 April. The theme of his talk was Governance and Regulation in Crisis: Addressing the Next One.  The lecture was followed by a panel discussion and then the audience were invited to ask questions of the speaker and the panel.  See:
